personal statement

My love for good food and interest in cooking started as far back as I can remember. Food has always been an integral part of my life no matter what the occasion. My background is Chinese and Italian. Food is an important component of both cultures. Food is the center of celebrations. It is consolation in difficult times and a proud tradition at all times.

I grew up around my grandmothers and mother making fresh meals every day, using unique tastes and textures, beautiful colors, and an assortment of flavors. No peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for me; instead I had eggplant parmigiana sandwiches on Italian bread in the lunchroom at school. I always enjoyed perusing the grocery store aisles with my mother. I loved watching her create something delicious and unique with whatever ingredients she had on hand and I enjoyed seeing the satisfaction on the faces of everyone at her table.

After working in fashion for four years, I finally decided to answer the call of my passion by leaving my career and enrolling in culinary school. I chose The Natural Gourmet Institute, renowned for its focus on health and nutrition. I wanted to recreate some of my favorite dishes using whole, organic, seasonal and local foods.

My interest in healthy bodies has been a long time pursuit. I became a licensed personal trainer years ago. I aspire to bring my combined knowledge of good nutrition and physical wellbeing to others one kitchen, one family at a time. In our world today, people are obsessed with the next best diet and the easiest way to lose weight. I look at food, diet, and exercise as a lifestyle. If you make it an important part of your everyday life you will see results in every part of your life.
